Economics Society

The Economics Society at the University of Arizona (ESUA) is an organization run by students and for students, in which students experience economics from different perspectives. The Society’s advisor and guru is Professor David Reiley.

The Society holds regular meetings at which there are guest speakers. Each event ends with a pizza reception, at which students talk with the speaker and socialize with other students and with economics faculty members. All Economics and Business Economics majors are welcome to join the ESUA.

ESUA guest speakers include business people and entrepreneurs who describe how they draw on their undergraduate economics education in their current careers; economics faculty members who describe their research; and speakers who provide advice on career preparation, resumes, and interviewing.

Recent meetings have included faculty members talking about their research on the economics of cable television, the economics of marriage, and the economics of charitable fundraising; a talk by the Barclay’s Global Investors executive who manages the company’s global macro hedge fund; a visit with the CEO of Pantheon Chemical; and a talk by a former economist at American Express.

Economics faculty members announce ESUA events in our undergraduate classes, and announcements are also sent via e-mail to subscribers of the Economics undergraduate listserv.
