Fellowships

A number of fellowships are available to doctoral students in the Economics Department. Please notify Lana Sooter by email at lsooter@eller.arizona.edu if you wish to apply for one of them.
Thomas R. Brown Teaching Fellows
Students with an interest in undergraduate teaching, and especially in teaching first courses in the principles of economics, are eligible to become Thomas R. Brown Teaching Fellows. Tom Brown was a founder of one of the world’s first microelectronics firms, and he believed passionately that citizens must be educated in economics. The Thomas R. Brown Foundation provides funding for fellowships to support doctoral students who have an interest in teaching the principles of economics. Each Brown Fellowship provides a $5,000 stipend in addition to the standard teaching assistantship, and Brown Fellows work closely with one of the Department’s nationally recognized award-winning principles lecturers. If you would like to apply to become a Brown Fellow, please email Lana Sooter at lsooter@eller.arizona.edu.
Latin American Fellowships
The Department has a limited number of fellowships dedicated to the support of outstanding students from Latin America. If you would like to apply for one of these fellowships, please email Lana Sooter at lsooter@eller.arizona.edu.
First-year Relocation Fellowships
Most first-year students who are awarded an assistantship are awarded a $1,000 or $2,000 Relocation Fellowship to help offset the costs of relocating and setting up housekeeping. You do not need to apply for this fellowship; you are automatically considered when you apply for an assistantship.
